'Never Say Never' - Frontline Automation Prove Nothing is Impossible With Their Latest Garage Door Project
Frontline Automation’s most recent garage door automation project is living proof that nothing is impossible. The customer, a gentleman from East Sussex, had consulted an alternative company before coming to us, only to be told that what he was trying to achieve was impossible. Frontline agreed that it wasn't a straight forward project, but certainly something we were willing to get our teeth into. The project consisted of altering 6 large manual horizontal sectional garage doors to enable them to become automated to give maximum opening whilst not using too much space. This would in essence leave two large doors which when operated by remote, the first door would move before ‘grabbing hold’ of the second section and opening fully – On closing again, the leading door would start off before grabbing the second door to close efficiently and safely. Certainly not an ‘off-the shelf’ install by any means.
The project began by removing the 6 doors along with the old hanging track and hinges. We then installed top rails and ground tracks before levelling to accommodate the doors. All six doors were then reinstated to the track and secured together to form the 2 doors required. At this point, the true picture of what was required became completely clear, and it was time to tackle the automation. It is clear to see why another company were unable to take on such a project – There doesn't appear to be a 'stock item' which can complete such a task, and after considering various options, an operator was decided upon with a bespoke-made beam for ‘grabbing’ the second door. This bespoke beam, coupled with some brackets fabricated especially for the job resulted in the impossible becoming possible.
The customer is delighted with the end product, as are we – Our engineers on site took this video to showcase how smooth an operation it has become.
